Can you make money online? Yes. Becoming an affiliate is one of the easiest methods for getting started. Okay, so just how do affiliate websites make money online?

Let's start with the basics. The web take a basic brick and mortar strategy and gives it a twist. In “the real world”, a company will hire a sales force to go out and generate sales of its product or service. On the web, a company will do the same thing. The difference, however, is the sales people are pretty much left to their own devices, which means they have few if any restrictions on how they promote the product or service. Also, these sales people are not restricted to working with only one company. Most will have multiple sites up promoting multiple things from multiple companies.

As you've probably guessed by now, these people are known as “affiliates” online. The interesting thing with this online system is it is incredibly flexible. Let's look at it from a different angle. Let's go down the line from company to affiliate. The company makes money by allowing affiliates to go out and push the products it offers. In exchange, it gives up a piece of the sales price to the affiliate. This, in turn, is how the affiliate earns cash. Running an affilaite program, however, can be hard work. For many companies, the issues are so overwhelming that they just go with an affiliate management company like Clickbank or Commission Junction to handle the entire thing. These sites then take a piece of the pie as well.



Being a successful affiliate is really about generating and controlling as much traffic as possible. If your sites get 100,000 visitors a day, you are going to get a much better rate from companies wanting you to push their products than if you generate 1,000 visitors a day. In fact, affiliates with huge traffic numbers are known as “super affiliates” and can make huge amounts of money. This should ultimately be your goal.
